The California marine terminals have implemented a new pick-up procedure called PierPass. The major benefit of this program is that all California marine terminals will now be accessible with expanded hours. In addition, the system is designed to help reduce congestion and improve air quality in the California area.

PierPass Program Highlight's

		Effective July 23, 2005
		Applies to all ocean import and export shipments
		Cargo owner is responsible – based on bill of lading
		Container will not be allowed to move if the fee has not been paid for picking up during peak hours
		Expanded hours of marine terminal operations
		- Peak Hours: Monday through Friday 3:00 A.M – 6:00 P.M.
		- Off Peak Hours: Monday through Thursday 6:00 P.M. – 3:00 A.M.
		- Saturday 8:00 A.M – 6:00 P.M.
		Exempt Shipments:
		- Return of empty containers
		- Intermodal rail shipments
		- Domestic shipments
		- Transshipments to other ports
		Fee's ($40.00 per TEU) – for peak hour pick-up
		- 20' container $40.00
		- 40' container $80.00
		Payment Options:
		- Import or agent can make payment to PierPass
		- PierPass will accept credit cards
		- ACH payment to PierPass
		- PierPass will extend credit for larger importers
		DDAO processing fee if advanced will be $20.00 per container for payment processing
