Issue 432, March 5, 2004
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have advised that there is a delay in the implementation of the Air Automated Manifest System (AMS) for inbound air shipments to the United States. The CBP will now enforce the new requirements as start of August 2004.

Air AMS Implementation Schedule

Date: Ports in the following locations:
August 13, 2004 Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia
October 13, 2004 Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin
December 13, 2004  Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington

The new regulations require transporters to electronically submit detailed shipment information to the CBP 4 hours before the aircraft arrives in the US. For air shipments from Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, South America (north of the equator) information must be received by CBP no later than 'wheels up' for shorter flights.

Consequently, this will require DHL to ensure that all shipping information is provided by customers on time. For further information, please refer to an FAQ document on the CBP web site.

Should you have further questions, please contact your local DHL office.
