Conflict in the Middle East - Air Update 3/21/03

Issue 395, March 21, 2003
As you might have expected, we are now receiving notifications from the major airlines that they will be instituting a War Risk Surcharge on all international flights due to the military conflict in the Middle East. The unpredictable nature of the war in Iraq has caused the carriers to implement this surcharge with almost immediate effect (most likely next week), stating the costs of longer routings due to diverting high-risk flight paths, use of alternative airports and additional personnel as the reasons for the surcharge. As such, Danzas AEI Intercontinental will need to pass this War Risk Surcharge on to you without exception.

Of particular note is that the Insurance companies have not yet announced an increase in their War Risk Surcharge. If this should happen, the overall War Risk Surcharge applied to your shipments will increase again. Once we receive this information, we will advise you immediately.

Obviously, we don't wish to be the bearer of such unpleasant news. But, it is our intention to keep you as informed as possible with little delay. Please know that we are actively communicating with our airline partners regularly to ensure that your shipments are cared for in an expeditious and secure manner despite the erratic flight reductions and airport/airline cancellations. As communicated in previous announcements from us (as posted on www.us.danzas.com), we have already engaged our contingency hub in Dubai (and will do so in Europe if necessary) to accommodate the routing of your valued cargoes to their intended destination points in the Middle East. So far, the movement of traffic has been smooth with little or no disruptions, despite the escalating war in Iraq. However, we will continue to keep you regularly updated as circumstances change via The Danzas AEI Resource newsletter, as will your Danzas AEI Representative.

Please note that due to the complex nature of the subject matter, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean cannot be responsible for actions taken by the reader in reliance on the information contained herein without prior consultation with DHL Danzas Air & Ocean.
