AMPS Implementation Delayed
The Canada Customs & Revenue Agency has delayed the implementation of the Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) to October 7, 2002. Extension of the grace period will enable Canada's trading public to be more compliant and reduce the risk of future monetary penalties. For more information contact Jim McMahon, Director of Customs Canada.

Alameda Corridor Fee
As reported in the Journal of Commerce on March 28, 2002, members of the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (a representation of the largest carriers in eastbound Pacific) will begin charging a fee on containerized cargo passing through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach beginning April 15th.

According the Journal of Commerce, "the Alameda Corridor is an express link between the nation's largest port complex and intermodal rail yards located about 20 miles away near downtown Los Angeles. The corridor project eliminated about 200 grade crossings on the existing rail lines to the neighboring ports that slowed the movement of intermodal rail traffic through the congested Los Angeles metropolitan area."
