A Message To Our Customers

Issue 319, September 18, 2001
Air Freight:
US Exports: All carriers, with the exception of possibly Fedex and Polar, are NOT accepting UNKNOWN Shippers on all-cargo, combi and passenger airlines - directly or indirectly.

  • Air Canada has removed its 36-hour security hold for all cargo into and out of the US.

  • British Airways - Only cargo flying over or to North America will be x-rayed

  • Northwest Airlines and KLM announced on September 15th that it will reduce its system-wide flight schedule by 20 percent as measured on an available seat mile basis.

  • Malaysia Airlines - to USA
    - 17 September - accepting cargo shipments on all freighter services subject to meeting regular security processes.
    - 19 September - accepting cargo on passenger flights, point-to-point only, no consolidation allowed, and only for "KNOWN shipper" shipments only. UNKNOWN Shipper Shipments require 24 hour security hold.

TAIWAN TYPHOON: Taiwan's main carriers said on Tuesday that they had resumed flights to and from the island after Typhoon Nari pounded the island, suspending air traffic for two days. China Airlines and EVA Airways said they had resumed passenger and cargo services in and out of Taiwan.

Ocean Freight:
All US ports are operating normally. The port of New York/New Jersey is almost back to normal as well, with the current backlog of 1 - 2 days to be cleared up within a week. Danzas AEI Intercontinental's consolidation services to and from all major overseas points are sailing on schedule.

IMPORTANT: Possibility of War Risk Surcharges for Ocean Freight Shipments - We have received notification from various shipping lines that their insurance underwriters have notified them of the imminent introduction of War Risk Surcharges on shipments moving through the Red Sea/Suez Canal. We do not know at this time what the cost will be and when it will become effective. We will advise you as soon as more information becomes available.

Customs Clearance Status:
Although Danzas AEI Intercontinental operations are normal at ALL border crossings (Michigan, New York and Vermont), drivers continue to experience delays at ALL ports of entry. Delays vary by port from 30 minutes to 5 hours depending on the time of day. Any shipments for emergency relief to New York or Washington are being escorted through the border. Delays are anticipated to continue indefinitely.

Please note that due to the complex nature of the subject matter, Danzas AEI cannot be responsible for actions taken by the reader in reliance on the information contained herein without prior consultation with Danzas AEI.
