A Message To Our Customers

Issue 318, September 17, 2001
Danzas AEI Intercontinental is pleased to advise you that virtually all air freight backlogged at our gateways from last Tuesday has moved through our system as of this morning (Monday, 9/17).

- Effective Sept. 16, international carriers may fly to the United States if they meet the FAA's new security guidelines and depending on their point of origin. We have also been notified that international carriers have been authorized to carry freight and mail on their U.S.-bound passenger flights. Foreign flag passenger flights are subject to compliance with the FAA's new security guidelines as well as the point of origin of the flights.

The FAA has ruled that ONLY shipments from KNOWN shippers may be transported on passenger aircraft.

Shipments from KNOWN shippers may be accepted by airlines from FAA approved IAC's (Indirect Air Carriers) like Danzas AEI Intercontinental, or directly from KNOWN shippers. Although some individual carriers have adopted the position to not accept shipments from UNKNOWN shippers, the FAA has NOT restricted the movement of shipments from UNKNOWN shippers via freighter aircraft.

American, Delta, Continental, SAS, United, South African Airways and Lufthansa will not accept cargo on a passenger flight from UNKNOWN shippers, either directly or through an Indirect Air Carrier.

  • On the domestic side, we can accept freight from UNKNOWN shippers and move same via surface or all-cargo aircraft, subject to individual carrier rules.
  • The U.S. airline industry is experiencing unprecedented financial hardship due to the impact of last week's shutdown of the aviation system and the precipitous decline in air travel. Most airlines have significantly reduced employee head count and are cutting capacity by as much as 20%. As of Monday evening, Congress and the White House were considering a financial rescue plan for the industry. However, nothing has been agreed upon.

U.S. Air Exports:
Please be advised of the following USA Export Changes:

  • United has a 48-hour security hold on all cargo.
  • Japan Air Lines has a 36-hour security hold.
  • Air Canada has a 36-hour security hold.

Updates from Asia-Pacific Region Outbound:
Delays of three to five days can be expected on imports. Korea seems to be experiencing the heaviest backlog.

  • Singapore Air, Korean Air and Japan Air are only accepting shipments from agents with contracted space.
  • China Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Eva Airways are accepting bookings but are experiencing transit time delays of three to five days.
  • Korean Air is not accepting U.S.-bound freight due to huge backlog.

Pakistan:
All airlines operating from Pakistan, including the national carrier Pakistan Airlines, have stopped accepting U.S.-bound cargo until further notice.

Latin America:
Late last week most U.S. carriers had resumed the normal schedules with flights to and from Latin America, but carriers based in Latin America were not given clearance until over the weekend or on Monday.

Please note that due to the complex nature of the subject matter, Danzas AEI cannot be responsible for actions taken by the reader in reliance on the information contained herein without prior consultation with Danzas AEI.
