A Message To Our Customers
Issue 314, September 12, 2001
We appreciate your cooperation during this difficult period, and Danzas AEI Intercontinental remains in strict compliance with all government agency and FAA security regulations. Please find further updates regarding the status of air, ocean, surface transportation and customs brokerage activities:
- Air Freight: Transportation at or to New York, Newark, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco airports was not possible due to heightened security measures. All decisions made by the carriers are contingent on decisions made by the U.S. government and FAA. Currently there is a total embargo on all cargo including mail and priority cargo shipments on passenger and combination carriers until further notice. There is no time limit on this embargo and we will notify you of any changes.
The FAA has given carriers clearance for flights diverted after Tuesday's terrorists attacks to continue on to their final destination Wednesday. Additionally, the FAA has extended its ban on commercial flights. Today (9/12) the FAA released a SECURITY DIRECTIVE for all US All Cargo Carriers allowing them to resume flights once air space and airports are reopened. Every air carrier and every airport has received amendments that must be put into place. Each air carrier and each airport must certify to the FAA that these measures will be done when they begin operations. All airports will remain closed until they comply with required additional security measures.
- Ocean Freight: Only the Port of New York and New Jersey remained closed on Wednesday and will remain so until further notice. Evacuation and treatment centers have been set up in the port area to accommodate emergency needs. There are no plans at this time to divert ocean cargo.
- Surface Transportation: We continue to move as much cargo as possible through our surface network system until air activities can be resumed within United States and at all borders.
- Customs Clearance Status: Customs clearance activities are minimal and are limited to freight which is and has been on the ground. Some airports are not accessible at this time due to heightened security measures. From a Customs perspective, normal operations are in effect except for the port of NY/NJ. Border crossings are congested and cargo inspections have escalated to ensure national security.
Please join us globally at 10AM tomorrow (9/13) in a minute of silence to remember the victims and families affected by this terrible tragedy.
