Innovation Center Opening Marks the Launch of the DHL Innovation Initiative

Issue 012, April 5, 2007

On Tuesday March 27, journalists, DHL business partners and customers from around the world helped celebrate the launch of the DHL Innovation Center, a new research facility located near Bonn, Germany.

The DHL Innovation Center, a multi-million dollar international research center in Troisdorf near Bonn, was constructed to expand DHL's role as a technology and innovation leader in worldwide logistics. The center showcases advancements in logistics, including developments in RFID, geodata technology for optimizing travel routes and networks, and applications of global positioning satellite technology.

The DHL Innovation Initiative involves the collaboration of DHL's global business partners, including IBM, Intel, Philips and SAP, to promote technical developments in the mail, express and logistics fields, and to fast-track these technologies from concept to implementation.

At the Innovation Center, a global team of specialists will work on developing innovations to enhance the entire logistics chain. The Center houses development and research facilities in a space just over half the size of a football field. It allows visitors to take part in an interactive supply chain experience, encompassing a 1,400-square-yard exhibition area, including functions ranging from ordering and warehousing to delivery and billing.

The Center's research will result in methods to improve the logistics process for businesses around the world. The Center will also function as a think-tank, providing up-to-date information on supply chain innovations.
