DHL Danzas Air & Ocean's Canadian Operations Join Canada Customs' "Partners In Protection" Program
Newark, NJ (September 17, 2003) -- DHL Danzas Air & Ocean, the logistics arm of DHL, said today its Canadian operations have become official partners in Canada Customs and Revenue Agency's "Partners in Protection" (PIP) program, a voluntary government-business initiative designed to strengthen security along Canada's borders, combat terrorism and organized crime, and enhance the flow of trade entering the country.
Through PIP, Canada Customs has joined with the participants of the global supply chain to provide the highest level of security, facilitate the movement of goods and raise awareness of vital compliance issues. To qualify for membership in PIP, companies must conduct a thorough self-assessment of their supply-chain security procedures in accordance with guidelines developed by Canada Customs and Canada's trade community.
In return for acceptance into PIP, qualifying members will receive expedited handling and processing of their goods and documentation into Canada. In addition, they will be eligible to participate in the Free and Secure Trade Program (FAST), a U.S.-Canada cross-border effort where pre-approved carriers, importers and drivers can enjoy faster clearance of their goods into either country, and at a reduced cost of compliance.
"We are pleased to be accepted as full partners in the "PIP" Program and to contribute to the protection of Canadian citizens and to the facilitation of legitimate trade," said Mark O'Connor, Regional Security Manager for DHL Danzas Air & Ocean in Canada. "Our participation in PIP sends a strong signal to our customers that we remain fully committed to the safety of the supply chain, to a broader and deeper understanding of Canadian Customs law, and to the free flow of global trade."
In February, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean's freight forwarding and customs brokerage operations were certified as full participants in the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection's Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program. DHL Express was also certified as a full participant in C-TPAT in May. The C-TPAT program, similar to the PIP program in Canada, is designed to ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect the flow of global trade entering the United States.
"In conjunction with our Americas supply chain security strategy and C-TPAT, our involvement in PIP strengthens our already-steadfast resolve to secure the supply chain throughout North America," said Dr. Arthur Arway, Security Director, Americas, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean.
DHL Worldwide Express, the leader of the international air express industry and the express arm of DHL, is awaiting final approval from Canadian Customs on its application to join the PIP program.
