DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Certified Under Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) Program

Newark, NJ (April 14, 2003) -- DHL Danzas Air & Ocean today announced that its freight forwarding and customs brokerage operations have been certified as full participants in the U.S. Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.

Launched in April 2002, C-TPAT is a joint government-business initiative designed to ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect the flow of global trade. Through C-TPAT, U.S. Customs has joined with the owners of the supply chain -- importers, carriers, brokers, warehousemen and manufacturers -- to provide the highest level of security while facilitating the movement of goods entering the United States. DHL Danzas Air & Ocean agreed last September to participate in C-TPAT.

"Our certification in the C-TPAT program underscores our commitment to a safe and efficient supply chain," said Dr. Arthur G. Arway, Security Director, Americas, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean. "We believe our resources and expertise are invaluable in helping our customers and partners balance the equally important functions of security and commerce."

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean was one of the first freight forwarders to assemble a highly secure global network to ensure the safety of the goods in its care. This network fulfils the demanding security standards of TAPA (Technology Asset Protection Association). Moreover, the security professionals of DHL Danzas Air & Ocean trained TAPA's first independent auditors.

To qualify for membership in C-TPAT, companies must conduct a detailed self-assessment of supply chain security using the C-TPAT security guidelines created by Customs and the trade community. Companies must also submit a supply chain security profile questionnaire to Customs, and implement a program to enhance security throughout the supply chain in accordance with the C-TPAT guidelines.

In return for C-TPAT certification, members receive expedited handling and processing of their goods into the United States.

DHL Worldwide Express, the leader of the international air express industry and a sister company of DHL Danzas, has been a member of the U.S. Customs Carrier Initiative Program (CIP) since 1986. Currently, DHL is in the process of transferring this program over to the C-TPAT program and is awaiting final approval from U.S. Customs.
