Danzas activities offered under DHL brand name as of April 1, 2003
Basel, Switzerland (October 31, 2002) -- Danzas, the logistics subsidiary of Deutsche Post World Net, will conduct its activities under the DHL brand name starting on April 1, 2003. The Business Units Danzas Eurocargo (European land transport) and Danzas Solutions (supply chain management solutions) will be integrated into DHL. Danzas AEI Intercontinental (air and ocean freight) will continue to operate from Basel under the name DHL Danzas Air & Ocean. Danzas remains a legally separate company.
As part of its groupwide STAR value creation program, Deutsche Post World Net is reorganizing its activities in the areas of Express (now DHL and Euro Express) and Logistics (now Danzas). In the past there has been some overlapping among the group companies, especially in the realm of European land transport. Bundling activities under the DHL brand will make it possible to optimize the transportation networks, expand customer services, and reduce duplication in the service functions.
Danzas Eurocargo will be integrated into DHL Express and DHL Freight, Danzas Solutions into DHL Solutions. These three DHL units will be managed centrally from Brussels, the present DHL domicile. The new DHL will be headed by Uwe R. Dörken (present CEO of DHL) and Peter E. Kruse (now responsible for Euro Express and Danzas in Deutsche Post World Net's management board).
In the future, Danzas AEI Intercontinental will operate under the new brand name DHL Danzas Air & Ocean. The current CEO of the Danzas Group, Renato Chiavi, will become CEO of DHL Danzas Air & Ocean headquartered in Basel. The present Head Office in Basel will be downsized to accommodate the management of DHL Danzas Air & Ocean as well as certain support functions. The latter will be designated during the planning phase by those responsible for the DHL support functions.
Job reduction at Danzas Head Office
Besides Head Office, the European activities of Danzas will also be affected by the integration. The new DHL management team will now start developing the concrete models for the future. Operations will be switched to the new structure on April 1, 2003. At that point it will be possible to gauge the repercussions for the employees. The non-European operations of Danzas, today's Intercontinental Business Unit, will not be affected by the integration.
For Renato Chiavi, it is perfectly clear that this far reaching change represents a big challenge for the Danzas organization. "I am convinced that intensive cooperation within the group is the only solution for the future," he declares. "But I am also well aware that this is a very trying moment for our people. Some will be confronted with the need to move house or with a reorientation. For all of us, the nearly complete disappearance of the traditional Danzas brand name is very sad indeed - even though we know that the worldwide DHL brand provides a strong basis for continued growth in this hard-fought market. For many of our people, too, attractive new opportunities will arise within a fascinating group."
Benefits for the customers
"DHL Danzas Air & Ocean will in any case offer greater capabilities than the old Danzas did before it was taken over by Deutsche Post," notes Renato Chiavi. "The old Danzas was the core of Deutsche Post World Net's logistics strategy, and again under the new DHL brand our expertise will be a central component of the paramount project of becoming World Number One in Logistics!"
