Danzas AEI Intercontinental Joins U.S. Customs Partnership to Fight Terrorism
Newark, NJ (October 10, 2002) -- Danzas AEI Intercontinental has submitted its application to join the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) in early September. This follows the U.S. Customs Service's August 26 announcement that it would expand the program to include participation by air and ocean freight forwarders, brokers and non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCC).
C-TPAT is a joint government-business program designed to create collaborative relationships that strengthen supply chain security. Under this program, Customs will work closely with the owners of the supply chain-importers, carriers, brokers, warehousemen and manufacturers - to provide the highest level of security while facilitating the flow of goods entering the United States.
"Our partnership in the C-TPAT program sends a strong signal to every customer that we are dedicated both to the safety of the supply chain and to the free flow of global trade," said Arthur G. Arway, Security Director, Americas, at Danzas AEI Intercontinental. "Our customers know they can count on Danzas to be a trusted partner in this vitally important endeavor."
Danzas has long been a leader in building collaborative relationships to ensure the safety of the goods in its care. It was the first multi-national freight forwarder to create a global security department. In addition, for the last four years it has worked closely with an association of high-tech companies (Technology Asset Protection Association TAPA) to develop and implement security procedures to safeguard their high-value goods. Danzas's security staff was the first in the U.S. to train independent auditors dedicated to TAPA. In many instances, the TAPA standards exceed the security measures proposed by C-TPAT.
To qualify for membership in C-TPAT, companies must conduct a detailed self-assessment of supply chain security using the C-TPAT security guidelines created by Customs and the trade community. Companies must also submit a supply chain security profile questionnaire to Customs, and implement a program to enhance security throughout the supply chain in accordance with the C-TPAT guidelines.
In return for their qualification in C-TPAT, members will receive expedited handling and processing of their goods into the United States.
"We believe our experience and expertise will be an invaluable asset in helping Customs and our customers balance the equally important functions of security and commerce," said Arway.
