Royal Alliance Names Danzas AEI Intercontinental to Manage Brokerage Services on Northern Border
Newark, NJ (July 2, 2002) -- Royal Alliance Inc., a unit of one of the world's leading producers of polymer-based home improvement, consumer and construction products, has chosen Danzas AEI Intercontinental as its exclusive provider of customs brokerage services for Canadian-made goods entering the United States.
Under the agreement, Danzas AEI Intercontinental clears and releases merchandise at border crossings in Michigan and New York State. The goods are then distributed to retail outlets throughout the United States.
Since the partnership began, Danzas AEI Intercontinental has revamped Royal Alliance's parts classification catalogue, established procedures to guarantee proper compliance with Customs regulations, implemented safeguards to ensure that each import commodity received the proper classification, and developed cost-effective strategies ranging from consolidated invoicing to duty drawback.
Barry Stevens, warehouse and traffic manager, Royal Alliance, estimates the company will save tens of thousands during the first year alone simply through strengthened compliance, accurate classifications and less time and man-hours devoted to procedural issues.
"We are more than satisfied with how the relationship has evolved," Stevens said. "Danzas AEI Intercontinental understood our problems, and put in place corrective measures to resolve them. We are on much surer footing than we were a year ago."
Prior to the launch of the partnership, Royal Alliance had been beset by inaccurate or incomplete entries, sloppy compliance work and a re-active approach to the relationship, according to Stevens. Royal Alliance often spent significant man-hours tracking down its previous broker just to ensure that the work was performed according to regulations mandated by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
"We would find that entries contained products with incorrect tariff codes, or that some entries didn't have the full 10-digit classification numbers stipulated by NAFTA," said Stevens. "This situation could have created significant problems had U.S. Customs decided to audit our entries. We needed to move ahead with a strong broker that was committed to our business, to our growth and to achieving proper execution."
Stevens added that Danzas AEI Intercontinental's broad range of resources and expertise will make it an ideal choice to meet Royal Alliance's expanding logistics needs. "Clearly, they have capabilities to meet virtually all of our supply-chain management needs," he said.
"The difference between a superior logistics partner and a mediocre one lies in the attention to detail and a dedicated commitment to each customer. In the brokerage field, knowledgeable, passionate and responsive professionals will usually gain more than their fair share of business," said Scott Robbins, regional manager, Northern Border, Danzas AEI Intercontinental. "We know how critical border brokerage is to a company like Royal. That understanding is what drives us to innovate and to execute at very high standards.
