Darien, CT and Plantation, FL (February 11, 2002) -- Danzas and DHL Worldwide Express, the Logistics and Express Divisions of Deutsche Post World Net, have joined forces to ship from the U.S. to Venezuela a shell of the largest turtle species ever found and more than 100 specimens of prehistoric animal fossils.

Danzas North America transported the turtle, called "Uruma," via truck from Boston to Miami, where it was turned over to DHL for the air movement to Caracas. DHL Americas managed the clearance of the fossils through Venezuelan Customs and transported it to the Museo de Ciencias, Caracas, (The Science Museum of Caracas) a 126 year-old institution, where the fossil will be on display.

Uruma, approximately 6 million years old, was discovered in the Urumaco desert in Venezuela in 1972. Its shell alone measures two meters (78.8 inches) in length. The entire collection of fossils weighs approximately 3,500 pounds and measures 330 cubic feet.

The specimens have been at Harvard University, Cambridge, Ma., for the past 30 years for study. The Museum of Science undertook the negotiation to return Uruma and the collection to Venezuela.

The delicate fossils, which were shipped in 21 boxes, were packed in plaster prior to shipping and then trucked to Miami aboard a specially cushioned "air-ride" vehicle for added protection.

"Uruma is a national treasure of Venezuela, and we are pleased with the flawless handling and coverage provided by Danzas and DHL," said Sergio Antillano Armas, president of the Science Museum. "The museum enjoyed the convenience of working with one point-of-contact, the entire transaction was seamlessly consummated, and both companies took great care in shipping and clearing this precious cargo."
