Danzas AEI, Hapag-Lloyd team with The Body Shop to move humanitarian shipment to Kosovo

Three great names in the retail and logistics fields, The Body Shop, Danzas AEI and Hapag-Lloyd, have joined forces to provide humanitarian aid to the war-ravaged people of Kosovo

DARIEN, CT USA (October 25, 2000) -- Danzas AEI and Hapag-Lloyd will donate their logistics resources and expertise to move The Body Shop's goods from the United States to the Kosovar capital of Pristina.

The cargo, which will consist of donated inventory from The Body Shop's U.S. operations, will be packed into pallets and loaded into a container aboard a Hapag-Lloyd vessel at Norfolk, Virginia.

From there, the goods will be shipped to Malta, transshipped on a feeder vessel to Barr, Yugoslavia, and then trucked to Pristina, where they will be sold in a "charity shop" operated by Children On The Edge, a project of The Body Shop Foundation. All sales proceeds, after expenses, have been earmarked for the rebuilding of a school in the nearby town of Cabra. The town was completely destroyed by Serb soldiers during the Kosovo conflict in 1999.

All told, about 20 pallets of The Body Shop's products-soaps, shampoos and other personal care items-will be shipped to Kosovo from the USA.

"Children on the Edge," was founded in 1990 by Anita Roddick, Founder and Co-Chairperson of The Body Shop International, to offer humanitarian aid to civilian children in countries devastated by revolution or armed conflict. The "Children on the Edge" program has provided countless goods and services to needy citizens of Romania, Albania, Bosnia-Hertzgovena and East Timor.

The aid program in Kosovo represents the first-ever participation of The Body Shop's U.S. operation in "Children on the Edge"; previous projects have been managed from the UK, where The Body Shop is headquartered.

"I'm extremely pleased to find business partners willing to help out when the issue is kindness, not business. Our ability to touch the lives of children in Kosovo demonstrates the potential for such business partnerships to deliver profits with principles," Peter Saunders, CEO, The Body Shop USA.

"We are never more proud of our network as when it is put to work to help people, especially children, in need. We are prepared to help today, and we will be ready to help tomorrow."

"Hapag-Lloyd is pleased to participate in this opportunity to support both Danzas AEI and The Body Shop in this humanitarian effort to help the people of Kosovo," says Rudy Mack, President of Hapag-Lloyd (America) Inc.
