Body Shop, Danzas AEI develop UK-US logistics program
Danzas AEI hopes to play a pivotal role in supporting The Body Shop's multi-channel strategy to build and broaden relationships with its customers.
DARIEN, CT USA (October 4, 2000) -- The Body Shop Inc., a leading retailer of hair and skin care products has teamed up with Danzas AEI to build a supply-chain management program between the United States and the United Kingdom.
The agreement's first phase took effect August 2 and is operating on a 90-day trial basis. It calls for Danzas AEI to provide multi-modal transportation, customs broker-age and vendor consolidation services for The Body Shop's shipments moving from supply points in the UK to ports of entry at Newark, New Jersey and Norfolk, Virginia.
Danzas AEI hopes to play a pivotal role in supporting The Body Shop's multi-channel strategy to build and broaden relationships with its customers.
The Body Shop is considering the use of Danzas AEI's Cargo Management vendor consolidation services (CMS), which cost-effectively manages the flow of purchase orders and shipments linking retailers and multiple overseas vendors.
The Body Shop will also have access to the "Danzas AEI Interactive" suite of online supply-chain management tools; it expects to use the "US Customs brokerage" function embedded in "Danzas AEI Interactive."
"Danzas AEI has the tools, coverage and expertise to support our supply chain regardless of how or where we do business. They also provide us with the scalability we need to grow our company in a cost-effective manner," said Tom Moran, director of logistics, The Body Shop U.S.
Moran said he was particularly interested in the CMS product, which would enable The Body Shop to optimize the efficiency of its global sourcing operations.
"We want the flexibility that comes with an expanded sourcing network, but we had concerns about efficiently managing the process," he said. "While we are still exploring the use of CMS, we see it a unique tool that could offer us all of the benefits of global sourcing without the administrative headaches."
"Strong global brands like The Body Shop see the value in working with a seasoned logistics partner," said Bob Hewitt, director, global development, Danzas AEI. "We have the systems, network and people in place to serve The Body Shop today and to build value for future expansion, especially in the critical areas of vendor and data management."
