Danzas AEI expands in Middle East new joint venture in Oman

BASEL (Switzerland) (May 29, 2000) -- Danzas AEI has established a joint venture in the Arabian Gulf, Sultanate of Oman. The move solidifies its position as the Middle East's dominant logistics provider. The new company, with 15 employees, is jointly owned by Danzas AEI Inc. and Bahwan Travel Agencies, one of Oman's most prominent transportation companies. Under the terms of the venture, Bahwan Travel Agencies will control 60% of the joint venture company and Danzas AEI the remaining 40%. The joint venture company will be linked to Danzas AEI Intercontinental's (the Intercontinental Business Unit of Danzas) worldwide network through the LOGIS® logistics information management system.

Situated at the mouth of the Arabian Sea, Oman has emerged as a key commerce center, most notably serving the energy industry. The new venture is expected to generate broad based growth in air and ocean freight, value-added warehousing and distribution, vendor consolidation and project management services, Danzas AEI Intercontinental officials said.

"The joint venture will expand our presence in Oman, and it will add value for our customers throughout the Middle East," said Enver Moretti, vice president, Danzas AEI Intercontinental North Africa and Middle East, and managing director of the joint venture company. "The new company will deliver a superior level of service to Omani importers and exporters, and will help strengthen our region-wide operations."

Arabian Car Marketing, Imtac, Oasis Trading and Muscat Pharmacy in the automotive, high-tech, heavy equipment and pharmaceutical industries are some of the joint venture's key customers.

Oman is the third Middle East country where Danzas AEI Intercontinental operates through a joint venture. The others are the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon. The former AEI began serving the Middle East more than 20 years ago. Today, Danzas AEI Intercontinental does business at 60 locations in 18 countries, supported by regional distribution centers in Dubai, U.A.E.
