Danzas AEI opens distribution center in Seattle
Doubles space for value-added warehousing services
Darien, CT (USA) (April 17, 2000) -- Danzas AEI announces the opening of
a 60,000-square-foot distribution center near the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma,
Washington to accommodate growing customer demand in the Pacific
Northwest for integrated logistics solutions.
The center, located in Auburn, Washington, is situated near the two seaports
and is adjacent to three major freeways that serve the port areas. The center is
equipped with 25 dock doors, giving Danzas AEI the needed capacity to
provide trans-loading and cross-docking services, both of which require
significant space.
The facility also serves as a bonded Container Freight Station, enabling Danzas
AEI to cost-effectively manage the flow of inventoried goods waiting to clear
Customs.
The center replaces a 30,000-square-foot facility that Danzas AEI long
outgrew. AEI's 1999 warehousing revenues in the Seattle region expanded by
75% over 1998 levels.
Although the center caters to the distribution needs of all Danzas AEI
customers, its location is expected to draw substantial interest from companies
in the ocean freight industry. Danzas AEI operates a dedicated air freight facility
at Sea-Tac Airport.
"The new center gives us the resources to execute the seamless supply-chain
management solutions our customers demand," said Todd Boice, district
manager, Danzas AEI Seattle. "With expanded floor space and a large number
of dock doors at our disposal, we have the freedom to integrate innovative
inventory-control strategies into our time-tested transportation model."
Atlas Copco, a global manufacturer of industrial drilling equipment, uses the
distribution center to position its inventory for distribution from Seattle via air,
ocean and truck. Danzas AEI is responsible for receiving inbound consignments
at the facility, managing the inventory and handling the outbound distribution.
"Danzas AEI's facility provides us with an effective inventory and distribution
system throughout the Pacific Northwest. This enables us to enhance our
service by providing fast and timely deliveries to customers located in more
than 30 countries. In one case, an emergency request from Australia for a
critical part was on its way to the airport 20 minutes after the call came in," said
Tom Wake, manager, US operations, Atlas Copco.
"Many companies rely on Danzas AEI for air and ocean freight services. And
they all require seamless and efficient logistics solutions," Boice said. "With our
new center in place, we are well-positioned to execute a wide range of services
to meet any logistics need."
