AEI Handles Special Cargo For The Church

DARIEN, CT USA (October 5, 1999) -- AEI, a leader in integrated logistics services and information management solutions worldwide, has been selected to arrange the logistics - the clearance, crating, air and ground transportation - of the historic remains of St. Therese to more than 100 churches across North America in just four months.

Pope John Paul II made St. Therese of Lisieux, Normandy, France, a doctor of the church on October 19, 1997, on the 100th anniversary of her death. St. Therese gave her short life in love to the church. She was known as a patroness of the missionaries, miraculously cured people who were gravely ill, and cared especially for children, suffering from neglect and abuse. She is known as the "little flower" of saints.

Since Pope John's proclamation a year ago, thousands of Roman Catholics in Europe, Russia and South America have viewed her relics, enclosed in a small, Jacaranda wood, silver and bejeweled casket. At each stop, there are prayers, masses and vigils.

AEI will transport St. Therese's relics by air to JFK Airport on Tuesday morning, October 5, amid tight security. Before her crated casket reaches the airport's tarmac, priests from the region will offer a blessing. Then AEI will handle the uncrating, customs clearance and following transportation. After customs, a special welcome ceremony and mass will be held at the airport.

"We are happy to handle this special shipment for the church. We are used to taking great care with all of our freight assignments, no matter how large or small, but this one required special care and logistics. It was a challenge we were glad to meet," said Peter van Galen, director of Route Development Management of AEI.

Headquartered in Darien, CT, AEI is a world leader in integrated logistics services, delivering multi-modal transportation, warehousing and distribution, customs brokerage and information management solutions across a network of 700 locations in more than 135 countries.
