Baxter Healthcare Names AEI Provider Of Global Heavyweight Air Services
DARIEN, CT USA (March 29, 1999) -- AEI announced today that it has been chosen by Baxter Healthcare, a leading manufacturer of medical products and services, to be their exclusive global provider of heavyweight air freight services.
The agreement, which takes effect April 1, gives AEI primary responsibility
for Baxter Healthcare’s air shipments weighing 35 pounds or more. AEI will
also be responsible for heavier-weighted air shipments on select high-volume
lanes in the domestic U.S. market.
Previously, Baxter Healthcare used as many as five vendors, including AEI, to
ship heavier-weighted shipments across the globe. Baxter Healthcare is a unit
of Baxter International, a multi-national corporation whose products are sold
in 112 countries. More than half of Baxter International’s $6.6 billion in
annual sales is derived from non-U.S. operations.
“Focusing our global heavyweight air business was a major step, and we set
demanding standards for the bidders,” said Griff Lewis, vice president,
operations/logistics, for Deerfield, Illinois-based Baxter Export, which
manages the company’s transportation services. “AEI possessed the
infrastructure and information system to meet our needs, and strong
value-added services like ocean freight, brokerage, duty drawback and a
superb customer support staff were major factors in our final decision.
Baxter’s long and successful relationship with AEI also weighed heavily in
our decision-making.”
“Increasingly, high-growth companies shipping high-value goods are turning
exclusively to AEI for solutions to a broad range of logistics challenges,”
said Chris Jensen, director, corporate customers, AEI. “Baxter and other
savvy businesses recognize the value of our unique brand of supply-chain
management services.”
Headquartered in Darien, CT, AEI is a world leader in integrated logistics services, delivering multi-modal transportation, warehousing and distribution, customs brokerage, consulting, and information management solutions across a network of 711 locations in 135 countries.
