AEI Names Sjoerd Van Loon Vice President Europe, UK Managing Director
DARIEN, CT USA (January 19, 1999) -- AEI announces that its Board of
Directors has elected Sjoerd van Loon to the position of Vice President,
Europe and UK Managing Director.
Mr. van Loon will assume his new position on February 1, 1999 and be based
at AEI's European headquarters in Staines, UK. Chris Buckerfield, who held
the top European post for five years, will continue with AEI in an advisory
role until August 1, 1999.
Mr. van Loon has 32 years experience in the freight transportation and
logistics industry. Prior to this new appointment, he was AEI's country
manager for the Netherlands, a post he has held since January 1998. As
country manager for the Netherlands, he successfully integrated Mueller
Freight Services and AEI operations.
"For some time, we have been aware of Chris Buckerfield's intention to step
down during the first quarter of 1999," said Guenter Rohrmann, AEI's
president and chief executive officer. "I wish to pay tribute to the
outstanding contribution Chris has made to AEI since 1993. During this
period he has enhanced AEI's position as one of the leading logistics
companies in Europe.
"In Sjoerd van Loon, we have a natural and capable successor who will ensure
continuity in this important region. Sjoerd's expertise make him the ideal
candidate to lead AEI Europe into the next century," said Rohrmann.
Chris Buckerfield added, "I am delighted that Sjoerd has been given this
opportunity. He has a strong track record in both freight and logistics and
a clear understanding of customers' diverse needs. He is well-established
within AEI's European organization and is the ideal person to build on the
company's success in Europe."
Mr. van Loon began his career with KLM Cargo in 1967. In 1976 he joined
Pakhoed Rotterdam NV, a leading Dutch logistics concern and held various
sales and operational management positions for its air freight division
HAT/Pandair. In 1985, he joined Mueller NV as airfreight director and was
then promoted to director of its transportation division. In 1991, he led
a management buyout of Mueller Freight Services Group, which was then
acquired by AEI in December 1996.
Headquartered in Darien, CT, AEI is a world leader in integrated logistics
services, delivering multi-modal transportation, warehousing and
distribution, customs brokerage and information management solutions across
a network of 711 locations in 135 countries.
